The new GP contract was published in 2019 as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.
PCNs are a key element of the new contract, intended to bring together GP practices and other local services such as community, mental health, social care and the voluntary sector, to help join up services at a local level and focusing on the specific needs of the local populations.
The Icknield PCN provides services to Letchworth, Baldock and Ashwell & Bassingbourn areas.
The surgeries which are members of Icknield PCN are:
- Ashwell & Bassingbourn Surgeries
- Birchwood & Sollershott Surgeries
- Garden City Surgery
- Nevells Road Surgery
- The Baldock Surgery
PCNs build on current primary care services and enable greater provision of proactive, personalised, coordinated and more integrated health and social care. Clinicians describe this as a change from reactively providing appointments to proactively providing care for the people and communities they serve.
The PCN is led by local clinicians, who understand the needs of the local patients, wider population, and the General Practice workforce.
